What a watermark detector can and cannot do
A watermark is a marker deliberately placed in content by the system that produced it. Verifying one requires the detector held by that system. Where such a detector is publicly reachable, we use it. Where it is not, we say so instead of substituting a guess — which is why some checks return 'Not verifiable' rather than a percentage.
What this checker reads
Invisible characters embedded in text, C2PA manifests in images, audio and video, declared synthetic source types in metadata, and the descriptive fields that record which tool wrote a file. Every one of these is read from the content you submit, locally, in a single pass.
Why there is no percentage
A number like '87% AI' comes from a statistical guess about writing style, not from evidence. Those guesses misclassify non-native and heavily edited writing often enough to ruin real decisions. We report what is present, what is absent, and what cannot be checked.
